This is a 4 to 5.5 hrs excursion here on BüllsPort which
starts from the farmhouse after breakfast. The trip starts off with a 1.5 to 2 hr 4X4 drive,
on which Hartmanns Mountain Zebra, Kudu and Klipspringer are often seen, to the top of the
Naukluft Plateau where your self guided hike down the Quiver Tree Gorge starts. The Hike itself
takes about 2.5 to 3 hrs after which you are picked up by car at the bottom of the gorge and
brought back to the farmhouse.
Due to the clear rock pools, some up to 6m deep, a wide variety of bird and plant life can be
seen. The Black Eagle can be seen soaring high above the Quiver trees, while Love birds are
mostly seen in the branches of the wild fig trees. On occasion the Hammer Kop is also seen,
and massive Moringa trees are also found in the gorge.
The terrain is quite rocky, so closed walking shoes are a must, but walking in general is not
too difficult. A hat and at least 2 litres of water should be taken along, and something
warm in winter is also a good idea. So get packed and get ready for a unique experience. |
