This is a circular self-guided trail situated in the
Naukluft Park. It takes about 6 to 7 hrs to complete. It starts and ends at the office.
You start by walking upstream in the Naukluft river through some beautiful gorges, often
filled with rock pools after the rains. You have great scenery and the chance of seeing
animals.
Klipspringer as well as Mountain Zebra and a variety of birdlife and flora can be seen on
this hike. Walking in general is easier than that of the Olive Trail. But the distance and
a steep climb or two make this one more difficult.
At least 3 litres of water each should be taken along, as well as a hat and good walking shoes.
Binoculars and maybe a small lunchpack should also not be forgotten.
NB: Can be done as a short introduction to the Naukluft Mountains if one hikes only as far
as the "last water". This takes up to 1 1/2 hrs. You can swim there and turn back to the
starting point. |
